Start, Stop, Continue is the most approachable retrospective format: new behaviors to try, habits to drop, and wins to keep. It works for brand-new teams and for sprints where you want clear, actionable language without a long setup.
Facilitator tips
- Timebox the brainstorm so every column gets airtime — Start often needs a nudge or it stays empty.
- In Review, merge duplicates before voting so “Continue” themes don’t drown out change.
- Turn top-voted Start and Stop items into a short action list; Continue items are your team agreements for next sprint.
