When to use Starfish
Starfish separates “stop entirely” from “do less”, “keep”, “do more”, and “start new”. It’s the richest default when your team can handle five columns and you want fine-grained prioritization without running two retros.
Facilitator tips
- Explain Less Of vs Stop up front — confusion there wastes grouping time.
- After voting, read the top Stop and Start items aloud; they often define the sprint delta.
- If the board is huge, collapse Less Of into Stop during Review to speed grouping.
