Hopes & ConcernsSprint retrospective template
Surface optimism and worry early — perfect for kickoffs and new squads.
Columns in this template
Surface what the team is excited about and what they are worried about — ideal for project kick-offs or new teams.
When to use Hopes & Concerns
Hopes & Concerns makes space for excitement and anxiety in the same room. The Actions column turns worries into something the team can address, which is why it fits project starts, team formation, or pre-big-release sprints.
Facilitator tips
- Run Hopes first if the room is tense — it sets psychological safety for Concerns.
- Every top Concern should get a proposed Action or owner; deprioritize with voting if needed.
- Revisit Hopes next retro: which came true, which concerns were resolved?
